Our Pinterest Inspired Room

We're not sure if it's the gloomy weather outside or the fact that we've been staring at nothing but red and green since the beginning of the holiday season (October...really???), but when we stumbled upon this photo while browsing Pinterest, it made our eyes light up and had our hearts pitter-pattering just a little faster than usual...

So, in true Design-Diva form, we decided to try and recreate this room with items from our store! Check out how we would copy this room's decor, and let us know what you think!

We'd start with a Divine Consign-ordered Surya rug with a simple pattern in a neutral color, like one of these. (Remember, we can special-order any Surya rug you'd like, for a fraction of what they sell for in other stores!)

Then we'd add in simple, neutral seating with straight lines. This bench and chair would work great together!

Micro-Fiber Bench (Item # 7476) $186.99
Upholstered Side Chair (Item # 5784) $131.99

We happen to have a coffee table in the EXACT same style as the one in the photo! Although the finish on ours is much darker, it is timeless and would work well in your home for years to come.

Book It - Coffee Table (Item # 5207) $329.99

We'd finish off all the neutral tones with some bright and funky accents! The lamp we have is very similar to the pair in the photo, the blue glass vase is practical while still being decorative (and absolutely gorgeous!), and these super-fun, brightly colored, animal print pillows turn it into a fun and lively place to unwind.

Martin-Wood Lamp $398.99, Large Blue Glass Vase $26.39,
Pair of Martin-Wood Pillows $42.99

What do you think? Can you see our pieces working together in one room? Has a picture ever inspired you to redecorate your home? Let us know, we love to hear from you!

Chair back into picture frame (or mirror, or cork board, or dry erase board, or…)

We've been inspired!

As a furniture and home accessories consignment store, we want our customers to feel inspired every time they come in, without having to spend an arm and a leg on redecorating.

Today, we’ve come across a repurposing idea (thanks to allthingsthrifty.com) SO great, thrifty, and inexpensive, we just couldn't keep it to ourselves!

You will need:
- An old chair
- A saw
- A razor blade
- A can of spray paint
- Some elbow grease
- A husband (optional)

Step One: Go up to your attic and dust off that 3-legged chair you just haven’t been able to part with for one reason or another (Don’t have one of those lying around? We’ve got lots of super inexpensive chairs here at Divine!)

Step Two: Get to work sawing off the top of the chair, scraping, sanding, or sawing off whatever is inside (i.e. basket weave, etc.) sanding the edges, and spray painting it to your color of choice.

Step Three: Ta da! Look at what you’ve created! We’re so proud of you….now use that creative mind of yours to decide what to put inside of it!

Pictures...or a mirror...or a chalk/cork/dry erase board...or...

Let us know how yours turned out!

Symmetrical vs. Asymmetrical design

It’s Spring! Which means it’s the perfect time to do some redecorating!

Okay, don't stress out…redecorating your space doesn't have to be difficult! It can be as inexpensive and easy as moving your sofa around or adding some wall art. You don’t need to be a creative mastermind to update a room’s style—that’s what the lovely people here at Divine Consign are for!

Anxious to add some pizzazz to your living room, but afraid of doing something wrong? One word my friends. Say it with me. BALANCE.

Contrary to popular belief, balance does not necessarily equal symmetry. Sure, symmetry is naturally more appealing to the eye. But asymmetrical decor can be just as appealing, AND it allows you to add personality and character to your space.

Ready to give it a go? Here are a few Do’s and Don’ts to remember when decorating your home in an asymmetrical design:

Do make sure furniture is proportionate to each other and to the size of the room.
Do create a center focal point, and decorate around that area or item.

Don’t over-decorate. Simple is almost always better, especially when room décor is not symmetrical.
Don’t be afraid to mix and match! Go pick up that awesome piece you found at Divine Consign, we're sure there's a way to work it into your room! After all, mixing and matching furniture is what makes decorating fun.

On your mark...get set...GO! Let us know how your redecorating experience went!

It’s spring! How about adding some color to your home décor?

The air is warming up, the sun is staying out later, why not brighten up your home with a little bit of color?

Tangerine is making an appearance this spring, and over at Divine Consign we are thrilled—what a fun, vibrant color! Not ready to paint your whole living room bright orange? Here are a few fun ways to add pizzazz to your home, sans a long-term commitment.

Fabric
Sprucing up any room in your house can be as simple as finding that perfect area rug, accent pillow, or set of drapes. This is a great low-cost way to celebrate this seasonal color without going overboard! (Oh, and did we mention Divine Consign does custom upholstery and drapery??  How convenient!)

    Paint an accent wall
Don’t let this bold color scare you away! Orange can actually be a very calming color, making a room seem cozy and comfortable. And you can choose from an array of tones, ranging from softer shades like “Pumpkin” and “Salmon” to brighter tangerines and even gold.

Go trendy and practical!
Can’t bring yourself to spend on fluffy pillows or a modern accent chair, just because it’s “in season”? Go the practical route and buy pieces that serve a function as well as add character! (And come on, how CUTE is that tangerine clock?!)

America's Next Top Model (Home) - Week Six

WEEK SIX - ACCENT FURNITURE and ACCESSORIES
Take a good look at your space - looking good, right? Time to add accent pieces. Accent pieces are the smaller pieces of furniture and accessories that make a room functional, but also give it some flair! Coffee & side tables, lamps, side chairs, mirrors, artwork, now is the time to wrap it all up.
Consider your zones and their function - do you need a stand for your printer in your home office? A table lamp for the desk? An ottoman or coffee table for the home entertainment area? Remember to consider multi-functional pieces that serve multiple purposes AND look great!
A bit over-decorated, don't you think?
The best thing about accent pieces is that they are typically much less expensive and you can go a bit wild & wacky or over-the-top luxurious to make the space your own. But remember to KISS (Keep It Simple Silly). When you have found the right accent furniture to meet the needs of each zone in your room, get it in the space. Now is your time to decide if you went overboard (take it back!) or if you need more.
A+ for accessorization - just right!

When accessorizing your space, consider proportion and symmetry. Just as with large furniture pieces, scale is important when accessorizing. Symmetry conveys formality and calming order. Asymmetry is more casual and has a bit of an edgy or unbalanced feel to the space - perfect if that is your intent. There is no "right" or "wrong" here - play around with the arrangement of your accessories to determine what is best for your space.

You're accessorizing, you're arranging... now STOP! Don't over-decorate! Know when to say when. Grab a bottle of bubbly, pop the cork and congratulate yourself on a job well done. And while you are sipping that well-deserved glass of bubbly, it is time to turn your well-trained design eye to the next room...
