“National Get Organized Week” – Divine Secrets to an Organized October

With all of the indoor activities that come with cooler weather, what better time than now to get your home ORGANIZED? After all, the first week of October is “National Get Organized Week!” And with Divine Consign’s selection of goodies, it’s never been easier and more convenient!

Here are our tips (along with some featured store items!) on getting organized. Ready? Here we go!

1.       Use traditional items in nontraditional ways – Are the shelves of your linen closet caving in? Need a place to display all the extra arts-and-crafts your kids have been doing this month? Has your guest bedroom become a storage space for your out of season clothes and shoes? A china cabinet/display hutch would work marvelously for any of these problems! Towels, artwork, or shoes can be displayed in the upper glass cabinets. Extra bedding, craft supplies, and/or clothing can be stored in the drawers below. Bet you never knew how versatile that old china cabinet could be!

$329.99
China Cabinet - Item # 2194
$214.49

2.       Make the most out of every piece of furniture in your home – Why go with just a headboard when you can rock a headboard with built in shelves and drawers that ultimately saves space elsewhere in your home?! I mean, everybody needs a bed, right? Look for beds, desks, and other furniture items that may serve a dual purpose—you’ll be thanking yourself later when your home is clutter-free.

$120.99
Dark Wood Desk w/ Shelves - Item # 3508
$213.49

3.       Under-bed storage doesn't stop at plastic bins – I’m sure you are all well aware of the wonder that is under-bed storage. Seriously, it’s pretty much the smartest thing since sliced bread. You can store clothes, shoes, outerwear, toys, or any number of items in long, shallow plastic bins so they are perfectly accessible and (even more perfectly) out of the way. But have you ever thought about storing a guest bed under your bed? Duh! Trundle beds are a genius way to be visitor-ready when your in-laws just happen to show up a week early (sorry, you’re on your own with that part…). Then you just tuck it away when you’re done! Guest bedroom problem = solved.

4.       When it come to drawers, you can never have too much of a good thing – If you are going to by a dresser, buffet, console, or desk, make sure you are getting as much storage/organizational space from it as possible. Drawers are a great way to separate different types of items, so you’ll always know where to find them. At Divine Consign, we always have great deals on those perfect items to keep your home organized!

Contain Clutter

CLUTTER - no matter how hard we try to organize, we all have it. Here are a few simple and inexpensive tips to help contain some of your day-to-day clutter:

PAPERS - they are everywhere! School work, bills, recipes, manuals, wish-lists; paper is one of the biggest clutter offenders around.
THE SOLUTION - binders! Grab a bunch of binders (they don't have to match, but it sure looks good) and label them appropriately. Have a 3 whole punch nearby and every time a piece of paper surfaces on your counter, store it away!  Take that, paper!

BATHROOM SUPPLIES
- Not everyone has ample storage in their bathroom, sometimes we are faced with where to put extra rolls of toilet paper and guest towels?
THE SOLUTION - Old wooden crates! They look like cool antiques and can be stacked anywhere to store these necessities.

SMALL JEWELRY - How frustrating it is when dangly earrings get tangled together or when that special pearl earring gets lost!
THE SOLUTION - ice cube trays! The small compartments are perfect for separating pairs of earrings and they can even be stacked in drawers.

SOCKS & UNDIES - Now c'mon, who really has the time and patience to neatly fold underwear and stack socks in drawers?
THE SOLUTION - hanging fruit basket! You've seen these in kitchens, why not hang one in your closet to store socks, undies, scarves, anything that's difficult to store!

CHOOSING KIDS' CLOTHES - Always a chore when you're trying to get the kids ready & out the door for the morning.
THE SOLUTION - hanging storage shelves labeled with days of the week! At the end of the weekend when the laundry is done, simply choose an outfit for each day of the week and your morning ritual just got that much easier!

Organization Tip #5 - The Garage

You may think it's strange that Divine Consign, a furniture consignment shop, is writing about Garage Organization. Not strange at all, we say! Our talented staff has oodles of experience in design and space organization, so naturally we want to share our tips with you!
It may seem like a daunting task, but organizing your garage couldn't be simpler. Even if your garage looks like a scene out of "Hoarders" there is hope for you yet!

Step 1: Remove all items leaning up against your walls and put in the center of your garage (or on your driveway if you have one).
Step 2: Establish your KEEP, GIVE AWAY, THROW AWAY piles.
Step 3: Paint your walls a bright shade of white.
Step 4: Purchase organization systems from your local home improvement store. Large hooks, wire racks and wire baskets go a long way.
Step 5: Put everything in it's place. If something doesn't fit, you probably don't need it!
Step 6: Step back and admire your handiwork, receive compliments from your family and neighbors.

If for any reason these simple tasks just don't fit in your bag of tricks, hire a professional CLOSET ORGANIZER. These design specialists will measure your space, analyze your stuff, and design systems to fit all your needs. Most will also have installation services too so you won't even need to lift a finger.
What are you waiting for? Get started!!
