A Story of Stickley

Once upon a time, around the turn of the 20th century, five brothers set out to create a line of honest, simple, and beautiful furniture made "Als Ik Kan" or "to the best of my ability."

From the Stickley website:

"The Stickleys used solid construction, what-you-see-is-what-you-get joinery, and the highest quality woods. But even more, they showed a genius for design, creating hundreds of new forms that were at once beautiful to look upon, practical to use, exceedingly strong and long-lasting, and perfect for the new ways American families wanted to live.

"Stickley furniture was not for shutting up in formal parlors—it was to be used and loved by young and old. Great emphasis was placed on letting the gorgeous, organic forms of quartersawn oak and other woods speak for themselves. Finishes were not thick gums, but clear dyes that allowed natural grain to sparkle."

Needless to say, when a consignor brought us this STUNNING 1990's Stickley mantel clock, we were blown away - it looks brand-stinkin'-new! These one-of-a-kind, collectible items are valued at up to $4,000, so our price tag of $989 will be hard to beat. You'll have this item in your family for generations to come.

Not only is it a fun, INDOOR friendly activity, but you kids can help out too! And, if they’re really lucky, you’ll end up with something fun for them….like this super cute play kitchen made from a repurposed entertainment center!

You’ll turn something like this...

Into something like this!

How genius is that!?

Don’t have any old furniture laying around because you already brought it all over to Divine Consign? =)

Organization Tip #4 - Play Room

We have ideas up the wazoo for transforming ordinary furniture into new, useful pieces. The playroom is often a space that gets filled with toys, dolls, puzzle pieces, cars. These valuable possessions need some organized storage!

First, the obvious. Bins, baskets, boxes are all a must for good storage. You can buy the super-cute coordinating bins OR (as I do) reuse containers from formula, rice/pasta, bedding (thick plastic with zippers - awesome) for perfect storage solutions.

Next, think about the furniture pieces you may already have in your home OR can buy inexpensively at your local consignment shop (yep, that's a plug)!

Gone is the need for a large TV cabinet - make it a TOY CLOSET! Using baskets and containers, this is the perfect solution for attractive storage.

Forget a train table, coffee tables can easily transform using baskets to store endless train parts. When the train is gone, you still have a great table!
(this one is only $274 at Divine Consign)

Transform an old dresser into a clever toy chest - just a little paint and some creativity!
(this one is only $111 at Divine Consign)

Craft centers are a must - retrieve that old desk from storage, throw up a few shelves and a craft center is born!
